Ohashi says “Our life is the manifestation of physical and psychological energy.” Even today most Western psychologists do not consider the physical body when analyzing psychological states. Yet there are dozens of clues the physical body holds that can reveal one’s state of mind — even past traumas.
The first time that Ohashi taught this course was for a Gestalt Psychology school in Eschweiler, West Germany in 1979. They had read his book, Do It Yourself Shiatsu, newly published in German. In order to teach these specialists in psychotherapy, Ohashi had to study and develop a special course — a course about Meridian Psychology. As he expanded his study of meridians, he found that they are the glue — the adhesive agent – to connect physiology and psychology.
In this workshop, Ohashi blends “physical body work” with “psychological work” by demonstrating how meridians (energy channels) reflect psychological states in the body. Because meridians relate to organ function, and to the nervous system, how they respond to touch diagnosis (setsu shin) reveals a person’s psychological health.
Over time, the state of the meridians causes physical changes in the body, so that a practitioner can make an initial analysis based on observing parts of the body. Ohashi will discuss how meridian therapy can change a person’s psychological state, and demonstrate exercises that have a positive effect on the emotions.
Participants will practice meridian exercises and work on each other in pairs. The workshop is an opportunity for bodywork therapists and psychotherapists to add to their diagnostic skills. It is of interest to anyone who wishes to know him/herself better.
