OHASHI Method® Live Series: Muscle Meridian Sedation Technique

In Oriental medicine the most important concept is Ki energy. Ki energy runs through bodily “paths”, which we call meridians, so how to control, manage, and manipulate the meridians is important. In Oriental medicine when a meridian becomes congested, or stagnated, even overflows with energy, , the giver has to take the extra energy out of the meridian. This we call Sedation.

In Western medicine, a muscular condition is often the main reason that causes problems of movement. In Western medicine when muscles are over-worked, are too strong (which is called a hyper condition) and even stagnated, these conditions create an abnormal situation in the body. This situation often results in pain, muscle deformity caused by swelling, and also structural distortion. In order to correct these conditions, the therapist has to balance the Ki energy in order to correct them. This is what we call sedation. Ohashi has studied both meridian sedation and muscle sedation throughout his many years as a therapist. As A result of this experience, he has developed the Ohashi Method® Muscle-Meridian Sedation.

How the therapy Works: First diagnose the receiver’s body by moving it and see what the most difficult position or most protruded area or limitation is of movement and analyses the meridian condition and muscular-structural condition. Then you stretch both meridians and muscles in that area to the maximum position: the giver holds two or three areas of the receiver’s body with the hands and stretches gently. For example, for tightness and pain in the neck/shoulder area, hold the shoulder and the head firmly with your fingers and stretch in opposite directions. This will release the tension. When the receiver completely relaxes, we call this condition the tonus stage. Then the giver applies one more strong, quick dosage of the stretch, affecting both the meridian and muscles.

The technique is

  1. Safe
  2. Effective (you can see the result immediately) and
  3. 3) it saves the therapist’s time, when you apply the right timing.

The positive effect results from giving MM sedation at the right time, right dosage and to right person. By studying and gaining experience you will learn to assess the right time, the right dosage, and the right person.

Who should study? The answer is anyone who is involved in manual therapy: physical therapy, massage, shiatsu, and acupuncture. This therapy will enrich your practice and increase the patient-satisfaction ratio drastically. Even other therapists and teachers –– e.g. yoga or feldenkreis, pilates –– can expand their knowledge and repertoire of techniques by using MM Sedation
Lay people can also benefit from studying these techniques. For the last 50 years I’ve advocated a “do it yourself” approach. People are living longer, healthier lives: this therapy is suitable for family members and friends to help one another. Ohashi has developed a practical, easy and effective technique. Originally streamed live, online, and recorded in 2021 this four-module course teaches you how to use Ohashi’s unique muscle Meridian Sedation Technique. To help your learning experience and improve your body-mechanics memory retention techniques are first shown using pre-recorded demonstration videos. To help your learning experience and improve your body-mechanics memory retention techniques are first shown using pre-recorded demonstration videos. Then, Ohashi repeats the same video with his voice-over comments and advice. Finally, students are invited to practice while Ohashi gives feedback and encouragement. When appropriate, Ohashi’s feedback and encouragement are included from the original course. You’re welcome to practice as the original students did or skip to the next lesson.
